COVID-19 update

29 May 2020 by Rebecca Bugeja

Junior Eels are committed to doing everything possible to get everyone back on the field! We are excited to be moving to the Old Salesyard soon and will be bigger and better this season, no matter the start date!
We will need all the support we can get from our members to make this a success!

Please see below latest update from NSWRL

Dear Club Members,

You might be aware that a brief statement (copied below) was sent to participants on Wednesday night by the NSWRL outlining why our sport has chosen not to return to training at this point, and also a mention of some of the requirements that clubs will need to be complete (not just RL but all Sports) prior to any resumptions.

At this point, NSWRL have applied to the NSW Government for an exemption to the current Health Order which prohibits community sport being played based on the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our application is requesting that we (NSWRL) be allowed to resume competitions. We do not intend to allow Clubs to resume training until we have confirmation and permission to resume competitions. It is hoped that our application will be assessed by Monday 1 June and we should then be able to explain the process involved for Clubs to return to training.

Once we are approved to recommence competitions there will be steps that all Sporting Clubs will need to take before they can recommence training. Again, these steps will NOT be unique to Rugby League. All Sports will need to comply. Some of those steps are listed below:

1. Appoint a COVID-19 Safety Officer to their Club – this person will be responsible for the creation and implementation of the Clubs COVID-19 Return to Train and Play plan. NSWRL will provide a role requirements checklist and training for this person.

2. Clubs will be required to attend (by a Teams / Zoom or potential face to face meeting) a COVID-19 Return to Play Education Presentation which will be delivered by NSWRL staff

3. Clubs will need to submit a COVID-19 Return to Train and Play plan which will need to be approved by NSWRL or local League. The NSWRL will provide Clubs with a template plan which will be able to be easily adapted to each club’s needs.

4. Registers for attendance at training and game day activity will need to be kept. The NSWRL is confident we will have an electronic solution which will allow clubs to perform this task reasonably easy.

Obviously regulations and restrictions are changing on a daily basis. Rugby League for the 2020 season will look very different to 2019. We are anticipating some Clubs being overwhelmed with what will be required of them in the coming weeks and months as we get back to play, however we would like to assure you that the Community Football team will be here to assist in any way that we can.

I hope this information gives you some confidence that we are all working diligently to get Clubs and participants back to Rugby League fields as quickly as possible.
